The last time we spoke with Omni Mayberry, she was an Assistant General Manager (AGM) here at MRCO. Since then, she’s been promoted to Restaurant General Manager (RGM) and most recently named Area Coach (AC)!
Omni’s new role has brought some exciting opportunities. Perhaps the most thrilling of all was a trip to Irvine, CA to participate in Taco Bell’s theLeap training, a program for Taco Bell team members transitioning from in-store to above-store leadership.
But before we get to all the exciting stuff, we should give a little background because Omni’s career is incredibly impressive!
A Lesson in Confidence
Omni has a rich history with Taco Bell: She started as a team member while she was still in high school, which brings her total tenure with the brand to 30 years.
Over the course of the last three decades, the Tennessee resident has worked her way up the career ladder, and really hit her stride when she became an RGM. In just two and a half years as a manager, Omni trained 11 team members and developed a host of others in four of other market areas. She also earned an RGM of the Year Award!
“Take all the opportunities that are made available to you.”
Omni Mayberry, Area Coach
Omni describes that time in her career as essential for her confidence. She says she really learned how to be a good leader as an RGM — but she wasn’t done yet!
The ever-ambitious MRCO team player took it upon herself to ask her AC how she might continue to grow in the company. Excitingly, Omni’s AC told her about a few training positions that had just opened up. Omni jumped at the opportunity, becoming a Field Training Manager (FTM) while also maintaining her RGM role.
“I love growing and developing people,” Omni says of being an FTM. “I love to see what I know help someone else.”
This training experience — as well as plenty of time shadowing her boss — ensured that Omni was ready for the next step in her career: becoming an AC herself.
Landing the Leap
Omni was promoted to AC in early December. She’s learned a lot over the last few months, but the transition wasn’t difficult thanks to theLeap program!
Omni got to visit Taco Bell headquarters to take part in this coveted leadership workshop. “For someone like me who has spent a lot of time with the company, it was very rewarding to see where everything comes from,” she says of the brand’s gorgeous Irvine campus.
While at headquarters, Omni participated in a variety of lessons and hands-on activities alongside other ACs from across the country. She primarily learned new skills related to effectively managing people and maintaining business growth while also networking with her counterparts. Even better, she got to bring her husband along for the ride! It was the pair’s first trip to California.
“We had a ball,” Omni says of the trip. “Everybody got along and it was like we already knew each other.”
Crafting a Career in QSR
Omni has hit the ground running as an AC. She oversees seven stores in the Central Tennessee area and has spent a lot of time getting to know her RGMs. Omni runs a tight ship, but she’s an incredibly nurturing and caring leader. Above all, she wants to see her team members grow and succeed.
“Society sees us at the low end of the work world … but I like to teach people that fast food is just as important as being a doctor or a lawyer,” she shares with us, adding, “And the money can be just as good! You just have to work your way to it.”
