Thanks to over four decades of experience in the industry, Jane Robertson knows a thing or two about QSR. And in her six and a half years with us, she’s quickly climbed the MRCO career ladder. As one of just three Taco Bell Market Coaches at our company, Jane is a shining example of a true leader — she’s organized, hardworking and dedicated to supporting her team.
Industry veteran Jane Robertson has found success because of her fierce commitment, relationship building and high standards for those who report to her.
We sat down with Jane to learn just how she does it.
GOING ABOVE & BEYOND
When Jane shared a bit more about her day-to-day duties with us, it became immediately clear that her fierce commitment is a huge reason she’s had such a successful career.
Each month, Jane makes it her goal to visit every single Taco Bell in her market. Given that Jane’s market is comprised of 38 restaurants, you can imagine that these visits require an enormous amount of planning — and driving! But for Jane, seeing her team members face-to-face is a non-negotiable. We don’t require her to make these trips as often as she does, but for Jane, being in restaurants and getting in-person time with her team members is essential.
Jane’s stellar communication skills also stand out. She keeps close contact with the six Area Coaches (ACs) she oversees, aiming to speak with them each at least a couple of times a week.
“Relationship building, to me, is super important,” she shares, attributing a lot of her team’s success to their constant communication with one another.
SETTING GREAT GOALS
Yet another reason Jane excels in her role is that she sets clear expectations for each of her direct reports. So much so that she’s developed what she calls her Area Coach Expectations: a list of 33 items that she asks her coaches to check off every single month. By laying out these clear “to-dos,” Jane helps her direct reports understand exactly what they need to do to succeed, avoiding any confusion or surprises along the way.
“The team has expectations, they have goals, and they know I’m going to follow up on them,” Jane says of her strategy.
WORDS OF WISDOM
Jane’s journey is an inspiration for anyone considering spending their career in QSR. Her advice for those who hope to someday reach her level is “you have to be very good at time management, and you have to be a very good planner,” she shares. She’s proof herself that focusing on these skills can get you far!
And as for Jane’s own future at the company? “MRCO has been so good to me from Day One, that whatever they need me to do, I’ll do,” she professes. “I love what I’m doing. I love the people I work with. I would never even think of leaving.”
We couldn’t be happier to hear that, Jane. Congratulations on all of your success. We can’t wait to see what you’ll do next!
